Q1: I missed you guys during clubs day / IMAGINE, how can I sign up?
A: There are several ways to join us:) You can come to our office hours, which is posted on our website (www.ubcredcross.com ). Our office is SUB 64 (basement of the SUB, next to Sprouts). The office hours will also be posted on our office door. Q2: I am unable to come to the info session in Sept. What information would I miss and when is the next meeting?
The info session was basically a quick overview of the upcoming school year. You can find most of the info on our website www.ubcredcross.com a few days later. Some of the things that came up in Q&A are also posted under the FAQ section of the website. For info about our weekly exec meetings, please see Q14 under FAQ.
Q3: I heard that you guys offer First Aid courses, it that true? How much are they? When will they be?
A: Yes! We do offer Standard First Aid / CPR C courses. All the details (including the application) will be posted on our website as soon as they are set. The price will be between $100-120 (Members get a DISCOUNT when they present a valid UBC Red Cross membership card)
Q4: I would like to join the UBC Red Cross, how much is the membership fee?
A: Fee is $5.
Q5: How long is my membership valid for?
A: For the entire school year (Sept to April). Normally, we are not active in the summer.
Q6: What benefits do I get as a member?
A: To list a few: (1) You are placed on our emailing list, which allows you to get weekly updates. (2) You get discounts on our Standard First Aid / CPR C course. (3) You can get involved in any of the projects we put on throughout next year and as a result can also have a chance to become an executive. (4) You can also create your own project (as long as it falls within the mandate of the club).
Q7: How do I know what is going on?
A: (1) You are sent weekly email updates for upcoming/ongoing projects. (2) You can always check out our website www.ubcredcross.com. Q8: When are office hours?
A: Once we decide, the office hours will be posted on the website. Please see the upper right corner of the screen, above the JOIN ME button.
Q9: Can we do our own project?
A: Yes, new ideas are always welcome. However, projects need to fall within the mandate of the club and be okayed by an executive. After that we can help you with anything you need.
Q10: Do you send anyone overseas?
A: No. Please visit the Canadian Red Cross website if you are interested.
Q11: What is our appeal this year?
A: The appeal for 2009-2010 is TBA
Q12: I joined your club a few weeks ago and I received one/two email updates, then they stopped coming, what happened?
A: Some of our members do not pay the membership fee when they sign up. We still add everyone to the email list, but anyone who did not pay the fee will be removed from the list within the first 1-2 weeks. If this happens to you, please contact us via email, we will need your FULL NAME and STUDENT NUMBER. We apologize in advance for any confusion, but it would be unfair if we let unpaid members receive our weekly updates.
Q13: I saw posters for the UBC Red Cross info session, what is that? What do you talk about in those sessions? When are they?
A: We hold a info sessions during the week after clubs day. We briefly talk about our plans for the upcoming year, introduce ourselves, recruit new execs, and much more. Refreshments are usually provided and we always have a Q and A section at the end. People are also welcome to sign up before or after the info sessions.
Q14: Do you have weekly meetings? Can members come? When are they? Where are they?
A: Yes, we have weekly EXEC meetings. Members are absolutely welcome to attend as often as they can, in fact, we encourage that:) All you need to do is email us 24 hours ahead of time so we know that you are coming (include your full name in your email please). For term one (2009-10), meeting time is TBA.
If you cannot stay for the entire meeting, that's okay. Please bring your membership card when you attend as we may ask you to present it.
You can request for a copy of the meeting agenda by emailing us:)
Q15: If I join the UBC Red Cross, does that mean I'm part of the Canadian/Lower Mainland Red Cross?
A: No. But as a bonus to our members, we send out details about volunteer opportunities or events held by the Lower Mainland Red Cross in our weekly email updates. We also offer a workshop called Intro to the Red Cross Movement Workshop - an instructor from the Lower Mainland Red Cross will direct this workshop. Topics usually include the history, purpose of Red Cross, and much more! We encourage everyone to attend, cost is $10.
Q16: I joined your club and I paid the fee, but I have not received ANYTHING from you!
A: We apologize if that happens. If you do not receive anything from us within a few weeks of signing up, the most likely explanation is that we could not read your writing and your email was entered in our account incorrectly. If that happens, please email us at ubcredcross@gmail.com and we will take care of that ASAP.
Q17: How can I become an exec?
A: We usually recruit 1-2 new execs during the beginning of the school year (we talk about it in the info sessions). All you need to do is complete and submit the application by the deadline. If you are selected, you will be informed via email/phone for an interview. You will receive an email after the interview regardless of the results. During late Feb-early March, we start elections for the following school year, all members are welcome to apply to various positions – more details will be provided in second term.
Q18: I lost my membership card, what do I do?
A: email us your FULL name, student number, and the email you wrote on our sign up form (if different). We will look up your name in our records and if your membership is confirmed, you will get a new card.
