A little about HIV/AIDS and the Canadian Red Cross involvement:

HIV is still a major threat to public health throughout the world despite progress made over the years in some countries.  The Canadian Red Cross is supporting the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies’ appeal for Eastern Africa which supports the work of eight National Societies: Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda. The program aims to reach 17 million people with information on prevention over the next three years, provide care and support to nearly 30,000 people living with HIV and 130,000 orphans and vulnerable children. As well, the Canadian Red Cross is supporting the International Federation’s appeal for $20 million to finance a three-year program to boost the HIV work of Red Cross societies in Burkina-Faso, Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea and Nigeria.

The Canadian Red Cross is a member of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement, which includes the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the International Committee of the Red Cross and 186 national Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Our mission is to improve the lives of vulnerable people by mobilizing the power of humanity in Canada and around the world.
